NO CULTURE ICONS

i have recently been asked to submit some of my images to the no culture icons website.

no culture icons was formed to showcase the photographers out there who have sweet skills but don't seem to get the recognition they deserve. i can definately say the photographers on the site have amazing skills! but i can not say that about myself as that would be bragging.

go and have a look yes...

UPDATE

sorry i haven't updated on here for a long long time it seems.

i have been working on a new series of photographs of late. taking shots for the kula tsurdiu wedding dress exhibition inspired me. go have a look and a read on my site.

so it started to make me realise that i do seem to be intrigued by the older generation. their attitude, their aesthetic, the way they live their lives, their partners, etc etc. i just think it is so sweet when you see an old couple in this day and age, still holding hands, still wearing the same clothes they would fifty years ago, totally oblivious to how different the world probably is nowadays to how it was then. i actually find it strange when i see an old lady wearing modern designer clothes and modern make up, it doesn't seem right.

so i've started trying to portray this interest that i see through my photographs. i have a few photos so far, and i'm quite happy because i think they make you stop and think about what is going on in the picture, and make you think about the person in particular. here are a couple...

the second of those two images i am particularly fond of. this lady was standing there for about two minutes, just peering into thorntons, the high street chocolate shop. it was two days before mothering sunday, and i just thought what is she thinking?. you know? is she wondering what her daughters bought her? is she reminiscing about a time where she had to spend money on mother's day? does she wish she had someone to buy her a mother's day present? i don't know, it was just the way she seemed so engrossed by it all.

anyway, enough ranting. you can see some more of the images in leeds urban outfitters store NOW! and i am going to make a section for my website as soon as i have acquired a few more images. but i dont have a clue what i'll call the series. any suggestions on a postcard please.

ESKIMO TWINS

did a shoot with Leeds based act "eskimo twins" yesterday. Here a few shots from it.

This is the first bit of photo work i've done for a client on my new leica camera. It was refreshing. Not having to check the photos after every shot just made the shoot more relaxed and more natural. I'm very happy with the results. So expect more like this. I think I like black and white.

You can see the rest on my website.

found photos?

so, call me a creep, but i bought a camera off ebay the other week. that aint the creepy part. There was a film left in the camera, and i developed it. CREEP!!

anyway, i would like to start trying to get my hands on un developed films. So i will be raiding charity shops and car boots from now on. It's probably so wrong, but so interesting at the same time. The ones i recently developed from said camera, must be from the late eighties/early nineties. It's like i've opened a package of lost memories. It's like stumbling over treasure or something.

By the way, if i eventually publish them on my website, i will of course remove them, if by some chance the owners stumble across them whilst perusing the net. It's only fair.

Anyway, a call out to any readers. If you find a film in the bottom of your gran's cupboard, or tucked down the back of your dad's favourite chair, send it to me. I will develop it, publish the images in my book, and then give you a big thank you on the thank you page, and any people appearing in the photo.

do it! x
